Abstract: The Inspectorate’s new standard model of inspection for post-primary schools has increased substantially the focus on leadership and management, complementing the emphasis given to school self-evaluation and self-improvement. In all post-primary inspections, teachers’ questionnaires have been introduced to enable the staff to express their views on their school’s provision. The Inspectorate has also introduced area inspections, initially in the greater Newry and Coleraine areas, with the purpose of assessing the effectiveness, within a defined area, of the provision of education and training for 14-19 year olds in preparing them to progress to further education, training or employment.
